WORLD WIDE FAMOUS “WOMEN IN BLACK” ACTION FIRST TIME IN ARMENIA WITH A SLOGAN “STOP VIOLENCE AGAINS WOMEN”
The action is organized by Society Without Violence NGO and aims at silently raising the issue of violence against women. The slogan of the event is “STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN!”. During the event all participants should be in black clothes to show their unity toward this vitally important issue and in commemoration in domestic violence victims.
“Women in black” action has a long and remarkable history. First time it was organized in Israel in 1988.
In 1987, 20 years after Israel occupied the West Bank and Gaza, the Palestinian intifada began. In response every Friday Jewish women in black were silently standing on the crowded streets of Jerusalem. Quickly spread in dozens of countries, this action became a large-scale campaign. Now in many countries “women in black” are fighting against different issues such as violence, conflicts, wars and militarism.
