Wider borders for Women in Black movement
Since the moment of its integration into Armenian society Women in Black movement continues engaging new young members. The founder organization of the movement in Armenia Society Without Violence NGO launched the series of Civic Forums and Public Actions on Peace Building in 2012. The first region SWV visited in the frames of WIB movement was Shirak. The girls attending the 2-days forums learned about Women’s role in Beace Building, about Conflicts and its’ resolution, and about WIB movement as well. 2 weeks after the Forums, the participants organized and held a Public Action in the frames of Women in Black movement.
The second step by SWV was the same 2-days Civic Forum in Yerevan held on January 25-26.
This time the participants were SWV active volunteers, who were enthusiastic about being engaged into the movement. After learning more about the movement, conflicts and women’s role in Peace building they were actively coming up with different issues, that the young members could deal with in the frames of WIB movement. ”I’m interested in solving conflicts existing in Armenian army inbetween the soldiers. I think having a big group engaged in the movement can help us to cope with this kind of issues more easily.” – says SWV volunteer Margarita Khamoyan.
SWV volunteers committed to help in further activities in the frames of WIB movement, and mostly were eager for helping young women from the regions to organize Peace Building Public events.
Another creative part of the movement is the Peace Building Flash mob being planned to be held in summer 2013. Opening the secret, the Flash mob includes a peace building dance, which is usually a great pleasure to learn for the volunteers and the Forums’ participants.
SWV is lookang forward to upcoming Civic Forums, Public Actions in the regions and the Peace Building Flash mob in Yerevan.
